Beautiful Bluebells

One of our favourite walks is to go to Otterhead Lakes and walk by the lakes and through the woodland.  We went a couple of weeks ago when my brother was here but the bluebells were not quite out so we went again today to see the beautiful carpets of flowers.

The sunlight was just shining through the emerging Beech trees with their light green leaves.

Just off the path before the bluebells were beds of wild garlic.

As we walked further down the blue of the bluebells got more intense.

This is such a beautiful place, so peaceful and today there were no other people around, just the sound of the birds and the rustling leaves.

We stopped by the first lake and could see the swan still sitting on her nest and also the Heron was in the same place as we had seen it a couple of weeks ago.  I took a picture of Neil by the lake.

As we were driving from the car park up the lane we noticed that the Devon banks were also topped with bluebells.

Lovely walk up Staple Hill

Yesterday was a glorious sunny Autumn day, clear and crisp, but also bright.  We went for a walk up one of my favourite places called Staple Hill. There is a thick pine forest wood, with such densely spaced trees that there is only a little light that can be seen through them.

There was still a frost about and I got a picture of these leaves on the grass still with their white frosty covering.

We bumped into some friends as we were walking along the path.  They  had their dogs with them and we stopped for a chat as the dogs chased each other.

When we got through the woods we were delighted with the view, it was so clear you could see right over to the estuary and then to Wales.

Neil’s sister was with us and took a photo of us two:

It was a glorious day to go for a walk and just breathe in the fresh clean cold air.

Lovely walk at Staple Hill

The other day we went for a lovely walk at Staple Hill.  It’s only a 5 minute drive from here and is managed by the Forestry Commission as part of Neroche.  There are signed paths and viewpoints.  The forest is dense pine forest.

We did the short loop walk, where there is a proper made up path so not muddy, and various benches along the way for people to sit.  This path is suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs too.

An unusual shaped tree at Staple Hill

Along this walk are a couple of viewpoints with fantastic views across the west country.  On a fine day you can see as far as Wales.  It was a bit overcast when we went but still the views were marvellous.

The car park is free, which is nice to find in this day and age.  We met several people walking their dogs or their children!!  So we asked someone to take a picture of all 3 of us.

There are longer paths/walks starting from Staple Hill car park, called Herepaths but these looked to be a bit more muddy, after all the rain we have had recently.  Still it’s a lovely place to visit and so near to here.  If you want to come for a visit look us up at
